Organized in 1990 by artistic director and conductor Andrei V. Malyutin, the choir is composed of musicians possessing extraordinary vocal skills and considerable liturgical experience in Orthodox Churches and Monasteries in Moscow.

During its existence, AKAFIST took part in church services in Novo-Spassky Monastery and gave many concerts in different Russian and Baltic cities. They have presented choral music in international choral and music festivals in Moscow, Omsk, Ples, Riga, Toronto, Montreal, Marktoberdorf, Newport, Chautauqua, Cape May, Huntington and others.
